Viewable by various screen sizes
The common mistake made by various web designers is that they ignore to use retractable web sites to fit all screen sizes for best view by all resolutions.
They only care for the screen resolution they use for designing but in the real world visitors to your web sites may use 21-inch, 19-inch, 17-inch, 15-inch or 14-inch monitors to view your web pages. For example, web pages designed for best viewing in 14 inches or 640 x 480 resolution will suddenly appear too small and hardly readable in 1024 x 768 resolution.
Most web designers use static numbers to control displaying area instead of relative method (percentage). These web sites are ugly when displayed in 17 inches and above because of this reason. Why web designers still use this technic? The reason behind this is that this kind of web design is easier to control the site format. However, there must be a silver lining in the cloud if only they use a little more effort.
Take a look at the Microsoft web site which is an excellent sample in designing to fit all screen resolutions.
However, if you are a big screen user or viewing in high resolution mode, you probably found many web sites in ugly display elsewhere. @ Lumpini, we design the sites that reach all audiences without discrimination.
